We will introduce you to the local branch of one of the major Spanish banks. Most of the banks on the Costa Blanca which have multi-lingual personnel. Spanish bank accounts usually attract regular mortgage charges.

When you buy a property it is essential to have a bank account through which all your monthly payments can be made e.g. water/ electricity etc. You have a choice of 2 types of account:

Current Account

This is much the same as that in any country and you will be issued with a cheque book and ATM/ debit card. Cheques are generally not accepted as a form of payment in shops and businesses. Debit and credit cards are.

Saving Accounts

These offer interest, although interest rates paid at present are very low (marginally higher than current account rates). You will be issued with a cash book where all transactions are recorded. Savings accounts sometimes include the option of a debit card, but you are not issued with a cheque book.

For both types of account you will receive a slip for every transaction made and a monthly statement.

Internet Banking

In all banks you will be able to access your account on-line once you have been given your personal log-in and password.
